Quartz
Quartz is the second most common mineral in earth's crust and the most common at the surface. It shows up in many forms. In its purest form, quartz is composed of clear six sided crystals. If the crystals are not well formed, the quartz appears white.
When quartz has impurities, the color of the crystals may change. Iron can make quartz purple as in amethyst, yellow as in citrine, or orange/brown as in carnelian.
